Dodge, the American car brand who have spent the last decade putting ridiculously large and power full engines into their cars recently announced they are finally putting their 6.2-litre supercharged V8 out of production, but what a way to go out. Dodge have aimed to make the fastest production car on the drag strip. Making a whooping 1025bhp and 945lb ft when running on E85 fuel, the "SRT Demon 170" is more then a fitting send off to the Challenger model and the classic muscle car style as we know it.
Featuring a whole host of changes over the standard, (if you can even call it that) SRT Demon, Dodge have tried to eek out every bit of performance from not only the engine but the tires and chassis. It gets a modified supercharger featuring a 3.02in pulley and modified intake, giving a 40 percent increase in boost pressure, new 315mm Mickey Thompson radial tires, new suspension made specially for the drag strip and "power chiller" system which uses the air-conditioning system to cool the car between drag strip runs.
All these upgrades have created a true drag strip monster that is capable of doing the quarter mile drag in 8.91 seconds at a speed of 151.17mph (243 kph). This means that the this, a modified, hot rodded version of a car that hasn't had a new generation since 2008, is now the fastest production car on earth to 60mph (100kph), getting there in just 1.66 seconds beating the likes of the Bugatti Chiron and Koenigsegg Agera. 3300 total units will be made starting at a
price of $96,666 (£79,000), a bargain if you consider the performance per dollar you are getting.
